Descrição
This lesson explores the history of community design
and its effect on bicycle and pedestrian travel. It
explains the intricate relationship between transportation
systems and land use, and how this
relationship has evolved in the United States. This
session also discusses the importance of planning
for non-motorized transportation modes as viable
alternatives to the use of private automobiles, as it
relates to quality of life, economic factors, health,
safety and welfare. Finally, the lesson explores the
new emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian planning
that has resulted from national legislation and
grassroots support in local communities.
